Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

The Wood Duck hen is often overlooked, focusing on the brilliantly colored drake. But if you look close enough, she has some pretty significant, albeit subtle colorings too. The golden yellow eyeliner surrounding her deep maroon eye, the muted irridescent patch on the top of her head, and the green/blue metallic hues flanking her wings, just to name a few of her gorgeous markings... She's a beauty! (View Large)

I certainly must agree, both beautiful and oh so graceful.

Incredibly beautiful shot here, perfect in every way; both ducks are well lit and tack sharp, good natural habitat for the background and very nice comp.

Your Chicago shots as well as Ken Congers NM photos from back in the winter was exactally this wood duck images I was thinking of when I made my latest wood duck post.

What a wonderful image you caught with this photo...perfect in every way. I've never seen the green/blue that is flanking her wings before. How long did you have to wait for this shot? Excellent!!

They were the first wild duck species I encounter as a youth growing up beside a backwoods stream and to this day I think they are the most beautiful of the ducks in our area.

You did a superb job in capturing these!
