It's rare that I post about my yard birds, but since the weather has been gloomy, the only quality photos to be gotten are close ups, so I set up just inside my sliding glass door and waited for my feeder friends to show up.
A favorite of mine, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak is always welcome in my yard.
The female Rose-breasted Grosbeak
I have 5 Indigo Buntings in my yard. I think that they are all related and this one is most likely a first-year male, showing variable amounts of brown, especially in the wingbars.
Here's a look at another sibling.
And this closeup was the closest encounter of the day, as the House Finch fed just 6 feet away.

great shots Hannibal!!! I'm hoping to get some Indigo Buntings! I'm still waiting for everyone to find the darn feeder!!
I've always wanted to see an Indigo! Beautiful shots!!
Great shots! Grossbeaks are my favorites here!
I saw one of the Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks at my birdfeeder for the first time the other day and I didn't have my camera ready. Beautiful photos!
What beauties you have at your feeders. The RB's and IB's have not shown up here yet and I just can't wait. Your photos are the best and I am so thankful you show them.
Hi Hannibal,
I will simply say: LUCKY you!! When the weather is gloomy, you can turn to your yard and you have an impressive collection of nice shots... Here when it is gloomy, you just have to sleep, because there is no chance that you will get birds in your yard. They are very few passerine-like birds and they do not do that :-(
This morning in my feeder I had two male Red-breasted Grosbeaks, this was a first for me and of course I didn't have the camera either.
Don
WOW! Fantastic pictures.
So that's where my Indigos went. I was in NY & Vt for 3 weeks and missed the Painted and Indigo Buntings leaving FL. Just got back yesterday and no little beautiful birds. They were here all winter. The Indigos finally got most of their color. You have to brag about those that come to your backyard..it gives others hope in trying to encourage them to theirs.
