I had a very lengthy session with this Kingfisher, which is quite unusual for these anti-social Fisher-Kings!
He is sharp on his toes though, as I saw a Cooper's Hawk torpedo after him and he managed to maneuver his way away from death.
He preened...
Caught fish...
Took a bath...
Dried off...
And posed with his prize for a sillouette...

Congratulations!
Try as I might I have never had a kingfisher allow me to get within good photographic range. No only were you able to get a close up shot but you capture an incredible series!!!
Wow, stunning pictures! Looks like that the bird was posing for you, congratulations!
Simply stunning, I am giving you a standing ovation right now. I will not call for an oncore because this would be hard to top. They are just fantastic, always one of my favorite birds but never allowing me to get get close shots. You not only got those but you nailed them with him performing like wildlife should.
Greatest post i have seen in days! Those image are just awseome. The "took a bath" image is unique, i have never seen one like that....its a cover shot!
Simply beautiful; they are typically very skittish. This particular fella felt quite at home on his perch.
I'd be interested in learning what lens and settings you used.

What, did you disguise yourself as a tree or something? These are remarkable shots. Living next to a lake I've never, ever gotten close enough to one of these beauties. I bow in your general direction! Found you via Sunny Side Up and Mz. Eve and I shall return. Lovely stuff!
Beautiful bird and you're pictures are simply amazing!
What fantastic photos--she's lovely. (Unlike most birds, belted kingfisher females are more colorful than the males. The boys don't have the rusty splotches.)
Beautiful blog!
